Why I Chose This Artifact:

By week five I felt confident in my ability to use sources effectively in my essays. Before then the formatting was slightly off and so it did not serve my arguments fully. I would make mistakes like adding the quotation in the beginning of the paragraph and not develope my point first.

In the paragraph to the left I argue the importance of keeping music in elementary schools. I selected two sources that both have done extensive research on the effects of music on the brain and who are also teachers. I used these criteria in choosing the sources because I felt the reader would relate well to someone with classroom experience and experience in brain development. By synthesizing the knowledge of the sources I was able to fully develope my argument and explore several benefits of music education to let the reader know that it is imperative that we keep music in public schools.

Problem-solution Essay:

Music Classes in Public Elementary Schools

SLO 3: Select, evaluate, interprept, and synthesize sources in the service of an argument.

My understanding:

Through my understading of text I should be able find sources and synthesize their ideas to strengthen my arguments in an essay. I should be able to assess whether or not a source is bias or not.
